Palm Springs-Our "kind of" vacation

I call this our "kind of" vacation because a real vacation just did not work out this year. Trents school let out on June 22nd this year and it is going to start up again on August 11th. With everything a Principal has to do to get the ready for the next school year six weeks feels like one. We had planned on taking a trip we have been trying to take for about four years. It was really going to happen this year. We had all the cash in place, the time taken off, a rough route planned and the same thing that happens every year happened. The higher-ups in charge let Trent know that they had planned Assistant Principal interviews three days into our planned trip and that they could not change them. He could either choose to stay and interview them so he could choose who he wanted to work under
him or he could let them interview and take what he got. Needless to say he stayed and did the interviews. So that is how we wound up with our "kind of" vacation. Trent had a Principal's conference in July in Palm Springs at a resort. Even though he is in meetings most of the time he really wanted us there with him. They always have really nice pools at these places so we went with him. Let me tell you if you have never been to Palm Springs it is beyond hot. It is so hot that you can't breathe. There were times that I wondered when I was going to start smelling my flesh burning because it felt like it was on fire. It was so hot that I was still hot standing in the
pool!! Unbelievable. It didn't help that we were in the desert during the hottest week that we have experienced yet this summer. However, we did enjoy our pool time, a free motel room and almost free food. At this conference they gave Trent $100 towards food that could just be billed to them. This was especially nice because he ate breakfast and lunch during the day at the conference and this didn't count towards the $100. We were able to eat dinner two nights on this budget in a resort because kids under 4 ate free!! So our "kind of" vacation wasn't all that we had hoped a real summer vacation would be, but we were able to get away, get in the pool, free food and away from our regular lives if only for a few days.

Coach Rob giving the boys their final team talk after the game. You see that little shorty to the right of Coach's shoulder? That is Tyler, the shortest boy on the team.

A Championship Celebration!!

Closing Day getting their trophies

Congratulations Cubs!! It has been a fantastic season watching you learn the game, discipline and sportsmanship! We are so proud of these boys. We are so grateful that Tyler was lucky enough to have such outstanding coaching and team members this year. It's difficult to explain to a 7-year-old that this might be a once in a lifetime achievement. Not many of us are lucky enough to be on an undefeated team and for boys this age it is difficult to grasp just how special this is. On the way home from celebrating at pizza after the last game we asked Tyler, "Do you understand what just happened?" He shrugged his shoulders and said, "Yeah, we just won the championship." Hopefully we have documented enough this year for him to understand someday just how special this season was. At closing ceremonies we learned that 5 of Tyler's team mates will go on to play on the All-Star Team this year. What an accomplishment!

Backyard Make-over

We have been waiting since we moved in two years ago to be able to do our backyard. If you have ever been to our house you know that the yard is very large and it was a major undertaking. It was a bit intimidating and we were finally able to hire a friend of Trent's to do it. It was amazing to watch the progress and transformation over the two week period. Trent did a fantastic job designing how he wanted everything to look. We can't wait to entertain our friends and family here.

Batting Cages so Trent can turn the boys into Major Leaguers.

They were able to connect the gas from our house to the barbecue and the firepit.
